Emphasis & Focal Point Example

This example of a focal point uses the technique of "emphasis by contrast". The outer elements (crowded grandstands, race track, etc.) are shown as muted or soft-edged. These edges are represented as a blur due to the speed and power of the race car. This is in direct contrast to the checkered flag, shown in a bold, contrasting pattern. The flag is the primary focal point. The race car is a secondary focal point, supporting the primary. Third, the accompaning title plays off of the entire racing scene by emphasizing again a racing theme.

I totally agree. The first thing I noticed was the checkered flag, then next was the race car.

when i enlarged the picture the first thing i noticed was the blue gloves... odd
